Editor’s Note: CommerceLab has partnered with Gerard Dolan to bring our readers updates on uxDiscoverySession, his ongoing series of podcast conversations with user experience industry leaders. This is the first instalment.

On the inaugural podcast for uxDiscoverySession, I talked to Jeff Parks, co-founder of DIGIA UX Inc. and Follow The UX Leader. Jeff is an Information Architect and User Experience professional with a background in Cognitive and Behavioral Psychology.Over his 15 year career, he has worked with public, private, and non-profit organizations, including: Twist Image, The National Basketball Association, The Dairy Farmers of Canada, Export Development Canada, Industry Canada, Exia Corporation, the Canadian Lung Association and the University of Ottawa to name a few.Over the course of our conversation, Jeff discussed his upcoming workshops in Montreal & Vancouver, his involvement in UX Poland, and World IA Day. He also shares some tips on gaining client trust, getting client buy in, and his recommendations for further reading on the topic of user experience.

Here’s what Jeff had to say about the changing demands placed on the UX design community:

A lot of what’s going on in the design world is a need to get buy in from business leaders. And a lot of the business leaders continue to look at quantifiable data to prove the need for change, and rightfully so. But I think a lot of the data overwhelms people. From analytics to market research — there’s a lot that gets thrown at you. So there are a few tools that I’ve used to contextualize the data quickly and easily.

Tune into the full podcast to learn more about how Jeff gets the information necessary to earn trust with the business.
